Battle for the Rainbow

The rainbow has been politicized by Conservatives.

During Gay Pride Week in Hutchinson, Kansas, a certain faction decided to unleash a garish attack on the rainbow. Funny thing is, Hutchinson is much more accepting than most of the other towns who are strong Trump supporters, even now. Having both a community college and a high school probably helps there.

When the Hutchinson Public Library held its September meeting members of the community packed one of two isles. The first person to speak was the city manager who accused the gays of stealing the rainbow. What part of “public” library didn’t he get? The tastefully arranged displays were scattered around the library along with other displays having different themes. Books that were specifically selected to answer questions a lot of children have, nothing more.

Most children, 3–18 see or know other students who have two moms, two dads, or who dress like the opposite sex wearing clothes and jewelry that makes no sense to them. One moderate minded Republican woman responded. She told our illustrious city manager that like it or not the LGBTQ population were in communities' nationwide. She went on to point out that children are naturally curious, which is also normal.

What her exact views on being LGBTQ didn’t matter, what counted was that she stood up for families knowing that in Kansas it is not always a good thing to be a Republican who supports gay rights. One dentist has a sign that is at the end of his…
