High Cost Childcare Defines Parenting
High childcare costs have changed how adults look at having children
Parents worry about the cost of childcare
From small towns to large urban areas, the cost of childcare is forcing adults to rethink parenting choices. With inflation continuing to burden families as the cost of groceries and other essentials have not come down, childcare continues to rise at a much faster pace. And with the new budget adults of all ages will likely be back paying on student loans soon, as well.
In Hutchinson, Kansas, a town with a population of approximately 41,000 residents, some parents are working different shifts so that one parent is at home to care for their children. Single parents aren’t seeking jobs, not because they want to stay on public assistance as right wing extremists swear, but because the cost of childcare would absorb all or most of their income. The minimum wage in Kansas is still set at $7.25 per hour while other states, even red Missouri, have increased theirs. This is reflected in statistics across the United States.
