Remembrance

For my sons-in-law’s father after his wife's death from cancer

You smiled at me from out of the crowd

But no

It was only someone that resembled you

That is how well I captured your image.

I can compose the sound of your voice from air

Or fingerpaint your expressions in shadow and light

No one else could ever know you half as well.

My body remembers your pulse

The minty smell of your warm breath

Caressing my face.

Ours a spiritual bond blessed by God and man

I am with you always.
